Tourmalinated Quartz crystals are quartz with occlusions of the mineral tourmaline. Although tourmaline occurs in many colors, in tourmalinated quartz it is always black. The tourmaline forms in rods, and can be just a single rod or whole clumps or groups of rods so that the stone looks very black. The stones in this necklace are lightly tourmalinated, with each bead having a few rods. The translucency of the quartz can range from very clear to quite cloudy, or almost solid white.
